10 Comments Moviehole has posted an interview they recently did with John Hyams, the director and co-writer of Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning. You can check out a snippet from the interview below and the full interview by hitting the link in red!! Thanks to myth for the heads up!! JU: The opening is not your standard action movie and in many ways seemed to invoke the feeling of a horror movie, with the voice of the girl calling out for her dad and talking about “monsters.” Is this movie going to take the audience through multiple genres and shock them? JH: Yes, that was definitely the intention. To me, USDOR is sci-fi, action, horror, noir thriller. I was inspired by filmmakers like David Cronenberg, David Lynch and Gaspar Noe, as well as amnesia stories like “Memento.” It deals very much with the subjectivity of experience — unlike the other Universal Soldier movies, this one comes from a much more limited, intimate point of view. The viewer often does not know anything more than the protagonist. The idea was to give the viewer a different kind of experience than they’ve had with the other movies — to challenge them in different ways, and hopefully fulfill them in different ways. JU: Scott Adkins is the main star, with Van Damme and Lundgren as co-stars. Would you say that Van Damme and Lundgren have as much time as they did in “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” or more time and how did you envision their roles this time, as it is clear Luc is not a good guy this time around, and when we left him at the end of “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” he was running off and treading the gray area between hero and indifferent? JH: Van Damme has less screen time than he did in US:R [Universal Soldier: Regeneration] however his role is no less pivotal. Dolph’s role is similar in size to the last one. The point was to introduce a different protagonist and tell the story through his eyes. However, it certainly, as you say, plays off the question of what kind of individual Luc has become since we last saw him running off. A few days back, Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) was spotted in some Die Hard set photos and Variety has now confirmed that he is indeed part of the cast playing a friend of John McClane (Bruce Willis). Also announced as being part of the cast is Megalyn Echikunwoke (House Of Lies), her role was undisclosed. The pair join Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir and Cole Hauser. A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD arrives February 14, 2013. Since the first Die Hard in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy. Sorry guys, wanted to get this update up yesterday but my website host was experiencing technical issues....Here's an update for you guys on the film plans for some of the Expendables stars...... First up, Screen Daily is reporting that Sylvester Stallone has lined up fellow Expendable Jason Statham to star in a film he has written called HOMEFRONT. The plot is described as follows: Homefront centres on a DEA agent who moves his family to a small town and comes out of retirement when his family and the local community are threatened by drug traffickers. Gary Fleder will direct the film and Stallone will produce it along with Kevin-King Templeton and Avi Lerner. Production will begin in September. Next up, Cinando is reporting that Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins will re-team for a film titled LEGENDARY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON. The plot is described as follows: Travis Preston is called to investigate if a legendary lake monster is behind the deaths at a remote construction site. As the death toll mounts, Preston discovers the beast is not only real, but has a taste for human flesh. The film begins shooting this month in 3D. IMDB is also listing Scott Adkins as part of the cast of the film Zero Dark Thirty, the story of the Navy Seal Team 6 group that hunted down Osama Bin Laden. And lastly, the poster for Jean-Claude Van Damme's new film Welcome To The Jungle has come online and you can check it out below!! Don't know much about that one but you can check out the IMDB page for more info!! Thanks to Mike, Joe, Myth and DAN2CARL for the heads up on those updates!! Production is underway on Summit Entertainment’s The Tomb. Directed by Mikael Håfström, the action-thriller is an Emmett-Furla Films/Mark Canton production. The producers are Atmosphere Entertainment’s chairman Mark Canton, Randall Emmett, George Furla, Robbie Brenner and Kevin King-Templeton. Co-financed by Emmett-Furla Films and Summit Entertainment, The Tomb is being filmed on location in the New Orleans area. Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE company, holds worldwide distribution rights and will release the motion picture in North America. Written by Miles Chapman for the screen, with a rewrite by Jason Keller, The Tomb follows Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed nearly every high security prison. After being framed by persons unknown, all of Breslin’s ingenuity and expertise are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from a high-tech prison facility that’s design is based on his own protocols. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Emil Rottmayer,a complex inmate with multiple shades of gray. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive. Jim Caviezel plays Hobbes, the warden of the Tomb. This is the type of prison facility that deals with inmates that no government wants on its books. The lead guard of the maximum-security facility, Drake, is played by English actor and retired footballer Vinnie Jones. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays Hush, Ray Breslin’s right-hand man and high-technology expert. Buttoned-down with street lurking just below the surface, Hush is aptly named because when he speaks, it is just above a whisper…but it’s a whisper with attitude and edge that can turn from soft to drop dead serious in the blink of an eye. Vincent D’Onofrio plays Lester Clark, Breslin’s business partner and CEO of B&C Security, their independent security company hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to test the integrity of their maximum-security facilities nationwide. Amy Ryan plays Abigail Ross, jack-of-all trades and one of Beslin’s closest confidants at B&C Security. Sam Neil is cast as Dr. Emil Kaikev, the prison doctor embedded within the Tomb, who is sympathetic to Breslin’s plight. Håfström’s previous writing/directing credits in his native Sweden include: the gripping coming of age drama Evil, which was nominated for an Academy Award® in 2004 for Best Foreign Language film; the thriller Drowning Ghost; and the drama Days Like This, which won Sweden’s Guldbagge Award for Best Screenplay. His films have been invited to festivals around the world and, at home, Håfström has received multiple Guldbagge nominations, with Evil winning the Award for Best Direction and Best Screenplay. The behind-the scenes filmmaking team of The Tombincludes director of photography Brendan Galvin (Immortals, Behind Enemy Lines, Flight of the Phoenix), production designer Barry Chusid (Source Code, 2012, Aliens in the Attic, The Day After Tomorrow) and costume designer Lizz Wolf (The Expendables and The Expendables 2, Rambo, Dreamgirls, Suspect Zero, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl, Armageddon, Traffic). Special effects are supervised by Michael Lantieri (Alice in Wonderland, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, The Hulk, Minority Report, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) and visual effects are supervised by Chris Wells (300, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Live Free or Die Hard). Elliot Greenberg (Chronicle) is editing. The sound mixer is Richard Schexnayder (Red, The Expendables, Jonah Hex) and stunts are coordinated by Noon Orsatti (The Expendables 2, American History X, Conan The Barbarian). The executive producers of The Tomb are Nicolas Stern, Bill Chase, Stefan Partirosyan. Schwarzenegger and Stallone will next be seen on screen together in The Expendables 2, which is currently in post-production and will be released this summer by Lionsgate. Schwarzenegger recently wrapped filming The Last Stand, also for Lionsgate, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and directed by Jee-woon Kim. Here's the plot: In Ten, an elite DEA task force deals with the world's deadliest drug cartels. Specializing in complex mobile operations, the team executes a tactical raid on a cartel safe house. What looks to be a typical raid turns out to be an elaborate theft operation, pre-planned by the DEA squad. No specific word on Arnold's role but he is presumably played the head of the DEA Task Force. No word on a release date yet.
