Expendables 2 may not be doing as great as expected locally but overseas it is doing fantastic!! Box Office Mojo has EX2 bringing in $66.5 million overseas thus far to go along with a $55.2 domestic gross for a grand total of $121 Million!! Not blockbuster money but without a doubt Expendables is proving its franchise material.

It was suggested that I do a special here at the site on the dream match-ups the fans want to see. So I'm leaving that up to you guys to decide. Include all your dream match-ups in the Comments section and I'll pick out the top five most chosen and place them in a poll for people to vote on and open a new page at the site and list them there.

Toni Ann Filiti, the 48-year-old half-sister of Sylvester Stallone passed away today after a battle with lung cancer. This terrible tragedy comes just six weeks after the loss of Sly's son Sage Stallone. You can read more HERE.

As I did on the day Sage passed, there will be no further news stories posted today out of respect for Sly's loss. Feel free to add anything you guys want in the Comments and I'll get a full update up tomorrow.

Our collective thoughts are with Sylvester Stallone and his family on this tragic day, may his loved ones rest in peace.

Mike left an idea for a new poll in the Comments section of the previous article and I liked his idea so here it goes in his words:

It has been said in many interviews by Van Damme, Avi Lerner and Stallone that they are contemplating bringing in Van Damme's twin for EX3, obviously it makes sense because he has played soooo many twins in his big movies (Double Impact, Maximum Risk) or clones (Replicant) or future/past versions of himself (Timecop, The Order, The Quest)... So it would be a nice tribute to JC since this franchise is all about paying homage to these legends past work...

Also, most critics and action fans say that he was the best part of EX2...

So my question is, would you rather have Claude Vilain be:

1-The even more evil and badass twin seeking to avenge his brother...

2-Have him be the Chad-Wagner-type character (from Double Impact) where he would be the cool, funny over the top nice guy who has always been trying to stop his bro from doing bad stuff so he feels like he owes Billy's death to Sly so he helps them by joining the team for the rest of the franchise and being the new member always fckin with Dolph...

3-Or you feel like he shouldnt be in EX3 so his EX2 performance is more memorable or he should simply make room for new action guys...

I have formed Mike's thoughts into the poll you will find in the menu to your right!! Place your vote and let's see what happens!!

m has also informed us that The Wrap is reporting that Expendables 2 is now up to $101 Million Worldwide for box office sales. Fantastic news as it has now reached its budget range so it should be heading into profit territory very soon!!

Not too much going on today, I'll just give you guys a little Box Office update. The official numbers for the weekend were released today and Expendables 2 pulled in slightly less then estimated with $13.4 Million for 1st Place. It was the worst weekend at the box office so far this year but hey, Expendables 2 won and that's all that matters!! Worldwide, Expendables is now up to $74.6 Million!!  According to reza, it opened very strongly in India!!

FROM VARIETY:
"Lost" veteran Josh Holloway is in negotiations to join Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington in David Ayer's action-thriller "Ten."

A testosterone-heavy riff on Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians," the Skip Woods-scripted film follows 10 members of an elite DEA task force that robs a dangerous drug cartel under the guise of a tactical raid on one of its safe houses. They think they've gotten away with millions in merch, until team members begin getting bumped off one by one.

Holloway is in talks to play Neck, a tough member of Schwarzenegger's DEA team who also acts as the medic.

Well it was a very bad weekend at the box office, out of the new films released, PREMIUM RUSH did the best opening at 7TH!! OUCH!! The top 4 films didn't even change at all and right at the top for a second straight weekend was Expendables 2 pulling in an estimated $13.5 Million. Check back for the actual figures tomorrow.

As was predicted, nothing will be able to touch Expendables 2 this weekend at the box office, despite the fact it looks like EX2 will nail down #1 with the lowest total for a #1 film so far this year. EX2 made $3.85 Million on Friday and is expected to pull in roughly $13.3 Million for the weekend.

I know a few of you aren't thrilled with all the Box Office talk here at the site and feel that the focus should just be on enjoying the film. I've focused more on the Box Office for the most part out of personal interest, I always enjoy reading the reports and find them interesting, but I'm sure not everyone shares that same interest. I am most certainly not out to bash the film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just want to make sure EX2 makes the money it needs to ensure us a long and prosperous Expendables franchise.

Just a random thought here. Until Expendables 3 comes out, this theory can't be fully proven but let's say for argument's sake that every two years a new Expendables film comes out. If each film opened to a $28 Million dollar take at the box office you would have to consider it fairly successful would you not? Depending on budget of course.

If we consider the opening of the first Expendables included all the 'randomly interested people' who were just curious to see what this kind of film was all about and some of those people didn't return for the sequel but the sequel still picked up an opening in roughly the same range as the first film then that has to be considered somewhat of a success.

I think it's fair to say that no film in this series will be  a huge blockbuster but if $28-30 Million opening weekend can remain the norm if they continue past Expendables 3, that's a fairly solid action franchise.

Typically, you want a sequel to surpass its predecessor, but there is something to be said for a sequel also delivering a solid return in the same range as the first film is there not?

What do you guys think?

FROM BOXOFFICE.COM
Lionsgate's The Expendables 2 grossed $2.16 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. However, the ensemble action sequel was down a very sharp 33 percent from Tuesday. With the summer box office season continuing to wind down, daily declines from Tuesday were large in general on Wednesday for wide releases. In comparison, 2010's The Expendables fell 22 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $3.03 million. The Expendables 2 has grossed $36.78 million in six days, placing it 19 percent behind the $45.66 million six-day start of The Expendables. With this weekend's new wide releases not expected to make much of an impact at the box office, The Expendables 2 is highly likely to remain in first place over the weekend.
