Since I'm going to mention the box office anyways, might as well let you guys know that Expendables 2 came in at 21st place with just $500 grand for the weekend. Safe to say EX2 is done with roughly $85 Million domestically. The international number will only continue to grow though with Japan opening EX2 on October 20th. EX2 is presently at $285 Million worldwide.
But I did want to mention the box office to point out the great opening for Bruce Willis's new movie LOOPER which opened in 2nd place with $21 Million on a $30 Million dollar budget. I wouldn't call it an action film per see, it has action but its more of a drama/sci-fi story. It's an excellent film with a compelling story and great performances, definitely worth checking out!!!

Please don't ask me to spoil the details because I signed a confidentiality contract. That being said...
The crowd was all for the film. It was packed. People clapped, people laughed (when they were supposed to). It is not in 3D. Sly and Hill did not attend. Imagine Sly's Get Carter character, only less of a conscience and more cold. It is much different than what he's done in the past. It is NOT a buddy film like Rush Hour. Him and Sung Kang do not like each other and when they crack jokes at each other, it's at the fact that they're both annoyed with each others actions. Sly's character Jimmy Bobo just doesn't really respect Kang's character that much but uses him to do what he needs to do. The chemistry works for the plot to move forward. Kang was weak in my opinion but the way I see it, this is Sly's show and he's there to make Sly look his best. Also regarding Sly's character - he is not all out "bad" in any sense of being a villain. He is bad meaning his character is just cold and ruthless and serves his own cause. He doesn't murder any women or children nor is he cocky in the film. His character is a man of few words who prefers to use his violence as a means to an end. However, when he voices his opinion, it's so straight forward it can make you laugh because it's dark humor. He's a man who has seen it all and knows the game.
Momoa was a good villain and was never given too much screen time, but when he was on screen it was to present himself as a formidable foe and setup for the finale. Adebisi (Mr. Echo from LOST) was good in his role but nothing too stand out-ish.
Regarding the whole TOM JANE FIRING CONTROVERSY: I will say that the way that the character was written, I dont see how it would make sense with Jane. The story would have played much differently because Sang's character is much less capable of doing what it takes and is hindered from being as effective due to him being a cop. If Jane was in the role, it would have to have been written differently because the "race" card was pulled a few times.
There is some character development in the story but it's done in a more realistic way. Problems between his daughter aren't solved. As in real life, things just are the way they are and sometimes we can't do anything to fix them. It is what it is. And that's what is represented in the film. They don't try to fix each other, they accept each other for who they are and that's the dynamic of his relationship with his daughter. There are some acting moments but its nothing that the "character" wouldn't normally do like spill his beans about his emotions.
Keep in mind guys, this isn't Running Scared kind of violence. The violence belongs very much in the Walter Hill universe. Brutal gunshots, straight forward murders, etc. With all that into play, it allowed them to throw in a joke here, and a joke there but the humor never surpassed or downgraded the violence which what I was concerned about. The axe fight was definitely something different for Sly in terms of final fights.
It might have been a temp score used seeing that this was a test screening, but overall it was hard, gritty New Orleans blues. And I'm a huge fan of the gritty blues.
I will say as a Sly vehicle I enjoyed it more than EX1 and EX2 - BUT the Expendables films don't count to me because of the ensemble nature. I won't compare this film to Rocky or Rambo but as a stand-alone Sly actioner, it's a d**n awesome film that I personally would rank up as one of my top favorite Sly films. Keep in mind, it's a much different tone of film than his other work so it's hard to compare it to the likes of Demolition Man, Tango & Cash or Cobra. As far as why the film got delayed, I will say that I think it's so it can ride the wave of the Expendables hype.
To sum up this review: Sly is at his most ruthless. this is the most anti-hero I have ever seen Sly. VERY hard R. Awesome final fight. Walter Hill delivers. The shootouts......whew, pack a mean punch. Good humor, short and not forced. Gritty, dark, and very violent. Since the film is still fresh in my mind I will give it a rating of 9/10. Maybe when time passes and my hype wears thin it could go to an 8, but nothing lower than that since I was generally pleased.

Gina Carano (Haywire) is the first recruit of the as of yet untitled Female Expendables film. Thanks for your patience guys, I just have time for a quick update tonight and I've included a FEW of the things you guys have submitted, my apologies I just don't have time to get to them all. If it's something you think that's newsworthy, please post it again in the Comments and I'll approve it. Things should get back to normal by the weekend.
As far as those trolls go, they are gone again, so feel free to enjoy the site once more. And yes I AM working on a permanent solution. I did enjoy going through all their comments though, they are just so sad and pathetic and good for a laugh. If they insult you, just look where its coming from. But I do apologize to everyone for the inconvenience.
Onto something relevant. Expendables 2 has now hit $284 Million Worldwide and has officially passed the first film by $10 Million!! All this with a release in Japan still to come!! Crossing $300 Million should not prove to be a problem at all.

Just wanted to let you guys know I will be unable to update the site for a few days for personal reasons but I will try my best to stay on top of approving the Comments in the Comments section where several of you are always posting great news stories and updates. Thanks for your patience guys and I'll be back as soon as I can!!
The weekend estimates are in and Expendables 2 took its first big tumble down the chart. Dropping from 5th place last weekend to 13th spot this weekend with an estimated $1.4 Million. So it looks like all future box office success for EX2 is now squarely on international sales, but that's where its enjoyed the majority of its success to this point anyway. As usual we will have to wait a day or two for an update on the international box office but when we have it I'll post it here.
Okayyyy....Looks like it may be GRUDGE MATCH for Sly after all!! His brother Frank Stallone has stated in an interview on the Adam Coralla show that Sly is getting ready to film the boxing comedy with Robert De Niro. If either HUNTER or GRUDGE MATCH are officially going to be Sly's next film you would think we should hear from an official news source fairly soon.

According to Moviehole, the film Grudge Match will be Sylvester Stallone's next film, not Hunter as recently reported. I reported on Grudge Match a long time ago but here's a refresher for everyone, the film is a comedy and would star Sly and Robert De Niro as "two retired boxers who return to the ring for a final grudge match."Peter Segal (Anger Management, Tommy Boy) is set to direct the feature, with Entourage creator Doug Ellin penning the screenplay.
It really doesn't peak my interest a whole lot. I'd much rather see Robert De Niro joining Sly in an action film, be it Expendables 3 or another separate action film.

Extra TV had the following scoop:
Producer Avi Lerner recently revealed that Clint Eastwood has been approached to play one of the bad guys in Expendables 3, while Nicolas Cage is already onboard for the newfilm.
Now, during the press conference for "Trouble With the Curve," ExtraTV had the chance to sit down with Eastwood and told him that Sylvester Stallone would love to have him in "The Expendables 3."
"He does?" asked Eastwood. "I haven't had the opportunity to see ['The Expendables'] yet. I haven't read any material." When asked if he would consider it, Eastwood replied: "Probably not. I'm probably more apt to direct something. Maybe I'll direct 'Expendables 3.'"
Well I think we all knew it was a long shot anyways. And Clint Eastwood won't direct Expendables 3.

FROM BOXOFFICEMOJO:While official numbers aren't available for The Expendables 2, it appears the movie has earned at least $186 million overseas so far (including a whopping $40 million in China through just 13 days). That tops the original movie's $171 million, and it puts the sequel on pace to cruise past the $200 million mark in the next few weeks.
With a release in Japan still to come in October and the global sum of $266 Million so far, $300 Million in earnings is very likely if not certain. Awesome news!!

I'll start things off with a Box Office update. The official numbers are in for the weekend and Expendables 2 finished in 5th Place with $3.1 Million and now sits at $80.4 Million domestically according to Box Office Mojo.
And here's more from Yahoo:After nearly a month dominating theaters, Stallone's actioner has amassed quite a fortune internationally. With a mighty strong 25 Million opening in China and add in another 11 Million in week 2, Expendables II has swept in 180 Million overseas with a total cume of 260 Million. The film continues it's strong hold in the states where it has amassed some 80 Million at the box office. The movie will end up around 83-85 M when the weekend is over. It might still have a chance to make it to the 100 M mark domestically if it continues with it's slow but good run. The Movie will open in Japan sometime next month.
An Insider also has informed us that President Obama recently saw The Expendables II at an undisclosed location and is a strong fan of old school action flicks. President Obama has given this movie his thumbs Up.Box Office Mojo hasn't updated their international figures yet so let's wait and see if they sync up with Yahoo, it should at least be in the same range.
It's looking like we may know what Sly's next film is...and its a familiar one. Once again, Yahoo has the scoop:
Is Hunter Moving Forward? Stallone has owned the film rights to the novel "Hunter" by James Byron Huggins for about 10 years now and never managed to make a film adaption, and it looks like with the kind of money Expendables II is currently making (EX2 will cross 300 Million world wide in a week or two), Hunter might see the light of day after all.
Apparently Stallone and Lionsgate have inked up a deal to fast track "Hunter" for 2014 release date which means "Hunter" will be Sly's next project or a "Rambo V" could go in between. AND YES, "Hunter" will be filmed in 3D. Stallone is set to star, write and direct Hunter which is based from James Byron Huggins' best-selling book.
Here is the plot : A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation. It is a job Hunter cannot turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.
So it looks like we may have to wait through Hunter and possibly another Rambo film before we get Expendables 3!!
Thank You To: Der & Dean!!
