In an interview with Edward Douglas of ComingSoon.net, Donnie Yen revealed why he chose to pass on a role in Expendables 2, here's what he had to say:

"They wanted me to be in 'Expendables 2' but I just didn't feel the role clicked. I was flattered that I was approached by the producers but I just didn't see the role they asked me to do being that intriguing. I didn't really want to do it but I'm open for anything. Doing a movie is a stressful thing. You spend months of you life focusing into that one project and I want to make sure I do something I really like or I'm really passionate about."

Not sure what Donnie Yen's role would have been but its likely for the best. I know we all want all of our favorite stars in these films but it gets to a point where if you have too many its almost impossible to give them all sufficient screen time. If they can talk to him again about a role in Expendables 3 that would work out better I think, as well as adding new action stars of course. EX2 should be a massive success so we can at least expect another film if not more.

Also, E Online is reporting that a fire broke out on the Hungary based set of A Good Day To Die Hard (Die Hard 5). No one was hurt apparently so that's great to hear, here's a little breakdown:

"There was a fire on the set of A Good Day to Die Hard in Hungary," 20th Century Fox said in a statement. "No one was injured by the flames, which occurred during a pyrotechnics stunt just after midnight CET on Thursday, and were contained a short while later. Bruce Willis, was not on set, nor were other principal cast. Principal photography on the movie began in April in Budapest, and is expected to wrap late summer."

Also of note in the article is that Patrick Stewart is credited as being part of the cast. Unfortunately this is not true. For a long time now IMDB has been listing Stewart as the primary villain of the film, which would be awesome, but there is no truth to it. Oh IMDB, that's why we love you....and we hate you.

Thanks to EX2 Blog and Melvin for the heads up!!

Damn that's a shame well there's always the 3rd one! I think he would make a great villain

One of my best mates (who is of Chinese origin) read a similar intreview with Donnie Yen earlier this year in which he stated that he had been offered EXPENDABLES 2 but it wasn't really that big a role. It is a shame that so far, Yen has only had two appearances in American action films (BLADE II, SHANGHAI KNIGHTS).

Make that three : there was also Highlander : Endgame. Though I'm sure he's trying to forget that one.

Irons - I didn't even know about Donnie's appearance in a HIGHLANDER film (I'm not a fan of those films myself - only saw the original once). I remember being really excited about his casting in BLADE II and although he played a cool character, he really was wasted.

I remember him being in Blade 2 and Highlander End Game. In Highlander he was faster than Adrian Paul (who's a great martial artist) and all the actors for that matter. It made no logical sense that his character did not survive.

Donnie Yen also made Wesley Snipes look like a white belt. lol It made no sense that his character was killed off and wasted like that. The Director of that film was aware of this and had him killed off screen since there is no way in hell any of the characters could take him out being far slower and not as skilled.

It's quite clear that he was over qualified for those smaller roles. Hollywood dropped the ball. Since, he's the best martial artist since Bruce Lee.

Hey Patrick, do you have any new information on the trailer for bullet to the head? I wish this trailer would just come out or was Sly going to change to movie up a bit yet?
