THE FOLLOWING REPORT COMES FROM
BOX OFFICE MOJO:
Lionsgate's The Expendables 2 is off to mixed results this weekend. After grossing an estimated $10.5 million on Friday, the ensemble action sequel is headed for an opening weekend take of $28.5 million. On one hand The Expendables 2 will easily lead the box office this weekend (and will have a very good chance of doing so again next weekend), but on the other hand the film will open below the $13.33 million opening day and $34.83 million opening weekend performances of The Expendables back in August of 2010. With such a weak line-up the next three weeks, there is the potential for The Expendables 2 to hold up better than The Expendables did, but the more front-loaded nature of sequels in general will be working against the film as well going forward.

This is very disappointing news for Expendables fans who were hoping for a much larger opening. I know a while back a few people were saying Expendables 2 could do "Dark Knight" business at the Box Office but that appears to be VERY FAR from the truth. Here's hoping that instead of big business, Expendables 2 can do steady business and maintain making money for several weeks.

These Box Office results do not bode well for THE LAST STAND and BULLET TO THE HEAD. If Arnie and Sly can pull in even close to $20 million on their opening weekends for those films they will be very fortunate.

EXPENDABLES 2 FACES BOMB THREAT

The Wrap reported on Friday "that Law enforcement officials across the country responded to a bomb threat at Carmike Cinemas' showings of "The Expendables 2" on Friday, setting off a fresh wave of anxiety at movie theaters still reeling from a mass-shooting at a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" last month. In a statement Carmike said it received a threatening phone call Thursday night at its Columbus, Georgia corporate headquarters."

Thankfully the threat has proven to be a false alarm. Some people have a very sick sense of humour.

VINTAGE EXPENDABLES 2 TRAILER

At Envision Entertainment's website, a company behind the making of THE TOMB, you can check out a pointless teaser poster and plot description. I say it's pointless because as has already been pointed out in my last articles' comments section, Sly and Arnie's appearances are way off for how they actually look in the film and the plot description provided on the website is also inaccurate. But check out both if you wish!!

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Winona Ryder is set to join Jason Statham and James Franco in HOMEFRONT, an upcoming action thriller written by Sylvester Stallone. Definitely a unique cast being assembled!!

"Kid actor Izabela Vidovic is also boarding the production, which is expected to get underway Sept. 24 in New Orleans with Gary Fleder directing.

The project, based on a book by Chuck Logan, centers on a an ex-DEA agent (Statham) who moves to a small town in the hope of a quiet life but runs afoul of a villainous meth kingpin named Gator (Franco).

Ryder will play a former biker chick partnered with Franco. Vidovic is playing Statham’s daughter."

I seen EX2 at a Carmike theater in Bethlehem, GA. I was at the Midnight premiere. Nothing was out of the ordinary.

It's official, Americans are stupid. The action genre is almost dead, and the only reason it's on life support is because of Sly's recent efforts.

Well we kpeople come on this wasnt gonna do dark knight mega bucks R rated films cant open $100million plus anymore. last R rated film to do that was Matrix Reloaded. even that i think hit $90mil on its first 3 days. critics also have power today so many people listen to them its unreal. and the marketing campaign at the start pretty much sucked what wbut get the ROCK in you wont be dissapointed Lionsgate. and next time say its R rated from the start dont feck around with PG13 rumoursas it 6months between teaser trailer and the full theatrical one?
what annoys me is that this was so much better than EX 1 it deserves to open at least $40mil.
if they want EX 3 to open to bigger numbers they have to get THE ROCK in the film his name will bring in the extra $15million trust me you really think FAST FIVE made that amount on Vins name alone? nope it was ROCKs name that added to it as well. tes by all means get tge biggest action cast ever to finish the series off but

Critics gave EX2 positive reviews (currently holds a 67% approval rating on rotten tomatoes), so I'm not really sure where your hatred of critics is coming from

Disappointing indeed, but I still believe EX2 has a chance outgrossing the 1st one with international grosses.

Agree, don't forget the rest of the world...
I think there is a good chance EX2 will do even better than the first one here.

Unfortunately I haven't seen the movie yet.
Which fight was the better?

The Sly vs Austin from the first one or the Sly vs Van Damme.

The one with Van Damme is obviously great but it could last 5 more minutes I guess

I saw EX2 yesterday with my best mate, I was shocked at the cinema price for one ticket (£7.90!) but at least we've helped support the film making money and it was worth every single penny. Great action, great laughs. Bring on EX3 now!

the movie was fantastic . i noticed someone missing in the scene where the expendables got off the helicopter to confront Van Dammes convoy of trucks.
I remember a photo being published here on this site that i thought was a great one. it included all the expendables with the exception of Jet Li and Hemsworth. all the Expendables with Arnold, Willis, and even Chuck Norris were holding their weapons about to shoot at the caravan. I wonder why Chuck Norris was edited off the scene when he is clearly in the photo ?
just wondering,

Left for the director's cut?

because he is the lone wolf so if we saw him shoot guns with everybody, nobody would be surprised when he saves Stallone in the airport.... but they had to use that shot with norris for the trailer to sell more tickets...

Either that or they cut a scene that shows Norris joining the group before the final assault at the airport. I agree that setting up his mysterious return and saving Stallone was part of it, though. As hmm suggested, I'm sure we'll see that play out in the director's cut.

Also, what happened to the supposed Novak Djokovic cameo?
