The potential of Van Damme in the film was all underused. His performance is clearly the best but the script tells nothing about his life or motivations. And that last fight is so frustrating, JCVD can do much better but Stallone is old now and may not. He seems like a huge threat all along and gets kicked out so easily.
The movie could have been 20min longer with more character-based scene and a longer final fight.

Kind of pathetic how people seem to be so obsessed with the final fight between Stallone and Van Damme, It tells me that the only reason those people went to see this was movie was for JCVD. You have to remember that he's the villain, and there's a personal reason for Stallone to beat him down and make him suffer.

Hell, if you're so upset about the final showdown, then people should absolutely hate the end of a movie like "Die Hard," where John McClane and Hans Gruber didn't even touch each other.

That was a stupid analogy. Bruce Willis was the ONLY star of Die Hard and ppl never expected Hnas to bang it out with Bruce in the end nor did they ever sold us that.
Expendables 2, on the other hand was an all star film where everyone of them should've had their 15 minutes to shine.
The producers(Sly included) and Van Damme sold us that the fight scene between them was going to be "creme de la creme"...peak of the film...etc IT WAS A LETDOWN!
Statham vs Adkins was more memorable and competitive.

sly never did movies of 2 h but nowadays good action movies have to be 2 hours we see MI4,SAFE HOUSE,SHERLOK HOMES,BATTLESHIP,FAST5,BATMAN(2.35) AND MORE EX3 HAVE TO BE MORE THAN 2H SEND THIS TO HIM

I have seen the final fight, and its not that bad, in fact I enjoyed it. It could be better? Of course, but c'mon, its pretty nice!

Overrall I liked the fight, but I do wish it would've been longer and a little more evenly matched, but come on Guys, that's what extended edition/director's cuts are for!

agree with you , the fight against the rock and vin diesel is more brutal like this fight against sly and jcvd...I am disappointed about this movie The end fight is too short.
The scene of Sly and Mickey Rourke in Expendables 1 when he speaks of the girl on the bridge, had for me all the importance of EX1.I would say this scene is the soul of the film!

Lionsgate's The Expendables 2 grossed $2.16 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. However, the ensemble action sequel was down a very sharp 33 percent from Tuesday. With the summer box office season continuing to wind down, daily declines from Tuesday were large in general on Wednesday for wide releases. In comparison, 2010's The Expendables fell 22 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $3.03 million. The Expendables 2 has grossed $36.78 million in six days, placing it 19 percent behind the $45.66 million six-day start of The Expendables. With this weekend's new wide releases not expected to make much of an impact at the box office, The Expendables 2 is highly likely to remain in first place over the weekend.
