Hey guys, not too much to pass on your way today. ABking sent in a message explaining how he believes John Woo (Face/Off, Hard Boiled) is the best director for Expendables 3, you can see his message below!! A big thanks to him!! I think John Woo would be a solid choice but from what I'm hearing it looks like Simon West may be returning to the director's chair. But nothing is official yet and anything can happen.

derlanger let us know that according to French websites (http://cinema.nouvelobs.com/articles/20773-box-office-expendables-2-et-stallone-indetronables), EX2 is still topping the charts in France for the third time in a row with 219.085 tickets sold last week for a total of 1.655.210 in 535 locations. Which is fantastic news!! I'm loving that EX2 is kicking ass overseas!!

That's about it for now guys, be sure to also check out an awesome new video and voicemail from Arnold Schwarzenegger below!!

AN EXPENDABLES 3 MESSAGE FROM ABking

Picture
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3523&p=.htm is reporting that THE EXPENDABLES 2 is burning up the WORLDWIDE box-office and at the rate it is going will pass 300 million dollars in a few weeks. We ALL know how this works. LOTS of money was made so there will be an EX3.

Having said that who should direct the 3rd and final EXPENDABLES movie. There is only one man for the job in my mind and that is JOHN "THE ETERNAL BATTLE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL" WOO! Yes, that is a line from FACE/OFF arguably JOHN WOO's BEST american made film.

That action classic came out all the way back in 1997, it is time JOHN WOO had a new best movie. THE EXPENDABLES 3 can be that movie.

Sylvester Stallone directed the first film in this series and set up the world and the tone perfectly. Then they brought in SIMON "CON AIR" WEST who did a fantastic job with the legendary cast. Now, for the final film they need to up the ante so to speak and JOHN WOO can do just that. We  already know who they are looking to persuade to be in the next movie and from the looks of it, it looks like an asian feel is in the making. JACKIE CHAN has all but confirmed he will be in EX3, the Maggie character will more than likely return as will JET LI. Donnie Yen seems interested. ALL these asian stars would shine in the hands of JOHN WOO!

People these days seem to underestimate what WOO can bring to the table -- I think EX3 needs to close out the series with a BANG and be different. Imagine Barney Ross throwing a canister of gasoline in the air and Trench shooting it only for an explosion to take out 20 of SEAGAL's goons....Or Jet Li and Jackie Chan fighting side by side trying to defeat Nic Cage's goons (right after Chan makes his entrance of course riding a bike into a warehouse mid air shooting a machine gun in slow motion). Maybe throw in some Maggie action to show the boys how it is done to try to one-up them....John Woo knows how to make all this look good on screen. See HARD BOILED if you don't believe me.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 is going to be the last EXPENDABLES movie and possibly the last action movie Sly and Arnold make or make together -- it must be special, it must be bold, it must be stylish, it must be different, it must bring something new to the table, it MUST be a JOHN WOO film!!!

John Woo is great in Hong Kong, but his American movies are just so-so. Too much slo-mo and flying doves, Not what I want to see in EX3. John McTiernan would be my Number 1 choice, if he is out of jail.

What makes him think Ex 3 will be the last? Although I think it should be. Stallone has said in the past Dwayne Johnson could take his place as team leader in future sequels.

Dear God, please don't let them bring in Simon West for EX:3. I don't want to see another joke-a-thon action movie spoof like EX:2 turned out to be.

John Woo could be great, but whoever they get, they need to know how to shoot good action scenes. West's direction was terrible, and the fights totally forgettable. I don't know why EX:3 has to be the last anyway, but don't bring back Simon West. Please!

John Woo sounds good to me. But 3 should be the epic finale. I don't want Expendables 7: A senior moment. This is it all the stars possible b4 anybody dies.

John Woo is to overrated in my mind. He made some good american movies like Broken Arrow or Hard Target but also bullshit like MI:2. I hope another legendary director of the 80's/90's decade action movies will direct. To example: John McTiernan, Renny Harlin or Walter Hill would be good choices.

I think the franchise can have more than 3 movies, has so many good actors who can still participate, in relation to the director walter hill and isaac florentine would be the best choices in my opinion.

I really enjoyed EX2 but for #3 I think I would like to not see Arnold as his 'I'm back' 'I'll be back' lines are wearing a bit thin now, don't get me wrong I love the guy and its a fun factor but it just got too..... ugghh really! YES WE ALL KNOW WHO IT IS!
And what happened with Bruce Willis, one min he was a serious hard case CIA agent then next min its a nicey nice we're the good guys all friends ending which kinda ruined it for me.

For EX3... yes bring most people back but I'd like to see a more serious tone and feel to the film with the odd sarcastic one liners

My hopes and demands for EX 3!!

New cast additions:

Seagal.
Snipes.
The Rock.
Eastwood.
Chan.

No comedy at all, no funny moments like in Ex 2.

An all full lown violent Hard R action movie with lots of shootouts and tons of fightscenes.

A running time of atleast 1h.45m.

i 100% agree with your new cast , also they need to take out Couture and Crews early in the movie so we can see more of the others , cause they ad nothing to the films ... for me EX3 should be the last of the franchise ...

John Woo's hk action movies are awesome but I don't think he'll fit as the director for EX3. I don't want to see too much bullet time action sequences. I prefer good old classic action (no slow motion) - I hope that EX3 will be shot the same way like EX2.

Why not make an Expendables 5? Why not? With the format, they could go anywhere and do about anything with the team changing from time to time. This isn't the kind of story where you have to conclude after the obligatory trilogy. Do 10 movies if the movies are good. Just please make the action and fights more intense than they were in EX2 and don't make each one a Hot Shots style parody like EX2 turned out to be. Too many self references and not enough brutal fights.

Justin Lin would be my pick to direct EX3, I like his action sceens in Fast Five.
But the movie would have to be true R rated.

John Woo certainly would bring his own unique style to the franchise, which could very well work as long as he leaves the doves out of it. John McTiernan be a very deliver a very different kind of movie than Woo, but still a very good one. Honestly, I'm ok with Simon West returning to direct. I really didn't mind the humor in EX2. This franchise is all about honoring AND poking fun at the movies that defined these guys in the 80s and 90s. They'll need to start killing off some guys in EX3, though, to make room for some new blood. Hemsworth is the only Expendable to die in two films. I'd be fine with Couture and Crews meeting an honorable demise.

John Woo as director of "The Expendables 3" will be a very good idea to me.
He would agree very well for this position and what kind of movies !
It is very good to stage action and more bring a touch of lyricism.

If in addition we add Dwayne Johnson, Wesley Snipes and all that will be turned into Asia's foot for me.

This is my dream !

I don't know about John Woo. The Expendables is an American movie with American stars, and to suddenly add all these asian stars to try and steal spotlights wouldn't be a good idea. 0nly this fanboy Woo mania of directing EX3 are the ones who keep begging for their desperate dream. Wake up and smell the coffee, and if they do choose this idea I'll be bummed out as hell because I want to see Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery team up instead of a bunch of asians being killed like Rambo II.

Sean Connery for me has nothing to do in the Expendables.

It does not say that there must have only Asian but a big part of the story could be happening there (or in an Asian country)
John Woo is in good U.S. films (mainly "Face Off") and it could be perfect to make a third installment.
