Business is booming overseas for Expendables 2, especially in China, here's an update from Box Office Mojo and USA CHINA DAILY:
Similar to the domestic box office, international business was fairly slow this past weekend. The Expendables 2 wound up in first place thanks to a very strong $25 million seven-day opening in China. Based on the figures that are currently available, the movie has already earned over $158 million overseas, and is on pace to easily pass the original movie's estimated $171 million foreign total within the next week.
Action movie "Expendables 2" is No 1 at the Chinese box office with RMB25 million in ticket sales on September 4, when it premiered in China. The film, starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and other tough guys, is expected to top the Chinese weekend box office. Theater staff explain the "expendable heat" is coming after audiences got sick of watching so many superheroes saving the world, including Batman and Spiderman. Real world tough guys have swooped in at the right time. People have commented that it is "a movie using bullets as many as 10 times more than The Matrix" and "a movie good to watch with your father".
