Don't Expect Clint Eastwood In Expendables 3

Extra TV had the following scoop:

Producer Avi Lerner recently revealed that Clint Eastwood has been approached to play one of the bad guys in Expendables 3, while Nicolas Cage is already onboard for the newfilm.

Now, during the press conference for "Trouble With the Curve," ExtraTV had the chance to sit down with Eastwood and told him that Sylvester Stallone would love to have him in "The Expendables 3."

"He does?" asked Eastwood. "I haven't had the opportunity to see ['The Expendables'] yet. I haven't read any material." When asked if he would consider it, Eastwood replied: "Probably not. I'm probably more apt to direct something. Maybe I'll direct 'Expendables 3.'"

Well I think we all knew it was a long shot anyways. And Clint Eastwood won't direct Expendables 3.

I say he wouldn't direct because Expendables isn't his thing. If he's never even seen them he's not likely to step in and direct the next one. I'm all for him being involved in someway but its just not going to happen.

I agree it's pretty unlikely. I guess it's just wishful thinking on my part. I would also like to see someone like McTiernan, Verhoeven, or even Robert Rodriguez get a stab at an EX movie.

I never thought for a second he'd appear in a 3rd film any way. I doubt very much he'd direct it either, he directs mostly dramatic movies.

I've been saying all along it would be great to have Eastwood as the original leader of The Expendables, mentor to both Sly and Arnold. When he retired, the two fought for control and broke off into their own groups as a result (hence their dislike for one another). Clint would only have to show up for one scene at the end or something.

It doesn't surprise me that he's leaning towards no, though. He's an Academy Award winning director who focuses on very serious films. This is Hollywood, though, so never say never. I'll continue to hope against hope he's be in it. Ya gotta believe!

@ Darkman,

West was really bad with the camera. Half the shots were out of focus, the picture had an ugly grain to it, and the movie was too light of a tone. The fight scenes were not that great either. Compared to the first movie, the second felt very weak and childish.

It was funny, but the laughs came at the cost of any really memorable action, kills, or well put together fights. I would rather see Stallone direct EX3 rather then West. I don't want to see another Hot Shots style spoof Expendables movie.

you know what is funny , some people says EX1 was too serious and EX2 too light tone as you put it and childish ? what about the Jet Li jokes in the first one and thats not kids jokes... out of focus cameras , its better that then the stupid shaky cam , i agree with u about the Hot Shots style spoof especially after the Rambo joke , i hated that , it was too much... the fight scenes well it was short but well executed anyways everybody has an opinion ...

Seriously, I do not represent that he is removing oldscool. I hope Stallone can persuade him dream simply, even in a bit part.
And it is strange that Eastwood didn't see the scenario yet, interesting negotiations by Lerner.

I suggest they should try to get Gareth Evans to direct expendables 3. He made the raid redemption kick ass. Maybe he can do the same for this film if he directs it.

Oh wow. That's a great idea. Evans knows how to direct a fight scene like nobody's business. Actually, now that you mention it, alot of the fights in the Raid were like the fights in expendables 1, so that's a pretty good fit. That would be action on a whole other level.
