While the team are moving on after the events of ExII, contact with Yang 'goes dark'. While he never really knew if he was coming back to work or not, he kept in regular contact with Barney (and Gunner), on a social basis, but he seems to have vanished.
Barney reaches out to Church, who cannot help officialy, but agrees to get the team into China, so they can search for Yang themselves. He also is able to arrange a contact to help them when they arrive - a disgraced cop turned PI/CIA informant (Chow Yun Fat).
It turns out that someone with real underworld weight and connections is trying to cover up the fact that Yang ever existed, and he is abducted, status unknown.
They eventually discover that it is Claude Vilain, and the Asian branch of the Sang who are responsible, as retaliation for the death of Jean, and the effective destruction of the Sang's Eastern European cartel.
The team must battle the triads to get to the Sang, and either save, or avenge their friend, but are they the hunters in this game, or have they been lured every step of the way into a trap?
R Rated. Proper Woo production. JCVD vs Chow Yun Fat, and Li ve Jackie Chan (as Vilain's psycho henchman, and Li's equal), in a played serious defintive battle between the icons.
Then I (Mike) added:
looove it Dave, the only problem is : where the hell is SNIPES ? lol
So i guess during their operation to save Li (who kinda saved himself and keeps telling them "thanks but i didnt need your help, i would've won") , Couture gets killed by Michael Jai White (Claude's henchman) and they capture Terry Crews, so now, The expendables and Jet li have to strike back to avenge Couture and Save Crews, but they are a bit short on man power, so Barney calls in Trench and Crews brother : Wesley Snipes they all go together and hell fckin breaks loose
