The Washington Post is reporting that Showtime has bought a new drama series about a no-frills gym in 1970’s Venice Beach, Calif., which will star Arnold Schwarzenegger in a recurring role. The show entitled, “Pump” will trace the roots of present-day body worship to this concrete body-building mecca.
Schwarzenegger was brought in to the project after the original creator brought the idea to " Two and a Half Men" exec producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, who decided to get the Governator involved. Once signed, Schwarzenegger began sharing stories of his past, according to The Hollywood Reporter – though he’d already shared a lot of them on that ESPN short film “Arnold’s Blueprint” about his teen years in the Austrian Army, where his bodybuilding career began.
He also gave small updates on Terminator 5 and Legend of Conan in a recent interview,
Was it always your intention to return to action movies after your governorship of California? I always made it very clear that I wasn’t trying to become a career politician. I just thought that California was in crisis and I felt that, in a sense, California and America had given me every opportunity that I have had, so I should take seven years out of my life to serve the people of California, regardless of the lack of pay. I gave the money back, as a matter of fact. It was like $187,000 (£124,000) a year, which is petty cash to me.
When you were getting back into movies, what were you looking for? Just simply a typical kind of Arnold action movie – and this one [The Last Stand] had great chase scenes, action, fight scenes and shoot-outs and it also had some great comic relief and a good story. And when I heard that Johnny Knoxville was in the film… my whole family, my kids, are all big fans of his comedy.
Were you ever tempted to do a Jackass-style stunt? Not at all because, as you know, the stunts work really well when they fail and that’s when people laugh… when Johnny crashes and barely crawls away and is hospitalized. So, I was not about to try that.
What can you tell us about Terminator 5? We’re writing it now. There are three projects being written that involve me. One is Terminator 5, the other is a Conan movie that Universal is doing and there’s the sequel to Twins, which is called Triplets. We’ll all look quite different in that. The third triplet is Eddie Murphy, so figure that one out.
In a fight between all your characters, who would win? I think they’d all join forces right away because that’s the kind of characters they are. Most of the characters I play are within law enforcement or some authority; they’re all pretty much the same. They have authority, bring law and order and fight the bad guys.
Below are three new teasers for the fan fiction series that a user on youtube called, 'triklops' is currently developing. If he is reading this, feel free to contact Dan and I for ideas in what you could include in your series :)
The final thing I wanted to get to in this update was that for the next nine days I will be on vacation somewhere and will unfortunately not have access to the internet or a computer for that matter. In my absence Dan will be handling all the comment approving and posting all the news updates. I will probably be back by June 9th, see you all then!
