To celebrate we're going to be looking at the very first post of Expendables Premiere. Then I want to highlight my personal favorite news update in the sites history!
We also have an exclusive interview with Expendables Premiere's original creator, Patrick Phillips!! Patrick will explain to us what made him want to start the website in the first place, and how the name "Expendables Premiere" came about!
Here I present to you, the very first post on Expendablespremiere.com made by Patrick Phillips on April 25th, 2010.
Welcome To Your New Home For The Expendables!!
Four years later, we're the biggest Expendables fan-site out there and receive thousands and thousands of visitors each day!
Below I want to spotlight my personal favorite news update ever on Expendables Premiere. Originally posted March 17th, 2012.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Drink Up, Expendables 2 is Now Rated R
"After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.”
To anyone concerned over the authenticity, Craig speaks directly to Sly and is 100% reliable. Sly lists StalloneZone on his TWITTER page.
To all those who campaigned for an R rating, Congratulations, you have proven that change is possible and that fans can stand up and succeed in having their opinions heard. It's extremely welcoming news to me. We can just get back to anticipation for the film and its promotion instead of concerning ourselves over the rating. We have all known from the very beginning that this film should have been rated R and we all once again have the rating we wanted.
Thank you to Sylvester Stallone and the rest of the production team behind the film for hearing out the concerns of the fans and for making the right call and giving the fans what they wanted. This was the right decision and you'll be rewarded for it at the box office come August!!
So lets all get back to our Green Beers and celebrating, Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!
Mike The Action Movie Artist made this great pic!
As previously stated, we were fortunate enough to get in touch with the original creator of Expendables Premiere, Patrick Phillips. Below is our interview with him!
Trevor: Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us Pat, how is everything?
Patrick: Things are going great!! Getting really pumped for EXPENDABLES 3, watch the trailer at least a few times a day. I'm also greatly looking forward to the return of the television series 24 on May 5th. In my opinion, its the greatest action television franchise of all time and my all time favourite show.
Hope you and everyone at the site are doing great too. There's been lots of new photos, interviews and of course the trailer recently to get everyone excited.
T: We're all doing well, thanks! Lets get to it, as you know April 25th marks the 4 year anniversary of the site. Four years ago today, what made you decide to start the Expendables Premiere?
During his promotion for ROCKY BALBOA and RAMBO, Sly did some fan Q & A with the website AIN'T IT COOL NEWS where readers could submit their questions and Sly would offer his reply. I LOVED those interviews and they really re-ignited my passion for him and the action genre. I loved the stories he shared and how he reached out to connect with fans. I had always been a fan, but those interviews gave me a new appreciation for Sly. As we all know, there had certainly been a big lag with Sly stuck doing DTV movies and Arnold in politics.
After ROCKY BALBOA and RAMBO, I eagerly awaited news on what Sly would be doing next. Sure enough, one day while I was on COMINGSOON.NET, a news article popped up that stated Sly was doing THE EXPENDABLES!! Not only that, but he had also recruited Jason Statham and Jet Li to the cast. THE TRANSPORTER and LETHAL WEAPON 4 had made me fans of Statham and Li so this was just unbelievable. This was my dream movie and I had an instant passion for it.
Earlier, I had an idea for a movie website that I had started and I was initially covering THE EXPENDABLES there but the site was going nowhere and its near impossible for one person to cover the whole movie industry. I knew there was only one movie I was truly passionate about at that point anyway so I decided to focus all my attention on THE EXPENDABLES.
Upon my return from Vegas, I sat down and created the website. My plan was to cover the film up until the premiere in Las Vegas. That was where the site title EXPENDABLES PREMIERE came from. As news of a possible sequel broke and the readership rose, I became fully invested and the roots of where the site is today were planted.
Sorry, I know I really gave the in depth response on that question!
T: No problem at all, great answer! If you don't mind us asking, was there any reason in particular that lead to you stepping down from being the admin of this website? We always thought you might have lost interest in the Expendables series.
P: Let me start by saying I have NEVER lost interest in THE EXPENDABLES franchise, it will always be something I am very passionate about.
I knew the readership was just as passionate about the franchise as I was and there had to be a few of you out there who wanted to keep the site going. I had considered just looking for partners and carrying on with the website myself but the more I thought about it I realized I was at the point where I was just ready to step back and enjoy the series as a fan and let someone else take over.
Since I have stepped back and handed over the reins, I couldn't be more pleased with the results. The site is in AMAZING shape and I know I left it in the right hands. I know I don't post in the Comments section very much, but I still always visit the site daily to check out what's new.
T: Even though you no longer report on the news, do you still keep up to date on all the latest on Expendables 3, and if so how do you like the direction this franchise has taken?
P: Yes I certainly keep up to date on everything that's going on, like I said, my passion for this franchise will never die. I personally think EXPENDABLES 3 will be the best entry in the franchise and the new recruits to the cast are my favourite additions to the franchise. Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas, I mean, how do you go wrong?
To keep the action genre alive new young actors have to be recruited to it and I think that's what Sly is trying to do. If they have his blessing, I'm willing to give them a chance.
T: A fourth Expendables flick would seem very likely at this point, who do you think should join the cast this time around and what would you like to see happen in terms of the story?
P: It all depends on how many more Sly, Arnold and the guys want to do. If they think the fourth film will be their last then they need to go all out and get as many stars in as they possibly can.
In regards to the story, GO BIG. Some major attack has happened and The Expendables have been framed as the ones responsible. Every law enforcement agency in the world is hunting them down and they have to band together with new recruits to prove their innocence and stop another major attack before it happens. Sly is an amazing writer so I'm sure he could come up with something mind blowing for us.
Obviously, if you can get him to commit, Steven Seagal should definitely be a part of this franchise.
It's already been reported Pierce Brosnan has been approached to join the franchise, I think that would be a great choice. Someone who has played James Bond should definitely be an Expendable whether its Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig.
I know Sly said he wants Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson on board, I'm all for that, though I don't think Clint Eastwood will happen.
Some other names off the top of my head, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Gerard Butler and of course the one name they can never seem to get, Nicolas Cage. I could ring off a huge list of names, but those would be some of my top choices. I also think Sullivan Stapleton from the television series STRIKE BACK and 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE would make a great addition. Jim Caviezel who stars in the television series PERSON OF INTEREST and did ESCAPE PLAN with Arnold and Sly would also make a great addition.
For younger actors to join, I'd look at Chris Hemsworth, Stephen Amell and maybe Sarah Shahi and Maggie Q to add some more ladies to the mix.
Likely long shots, but Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson would also be great additions.
T: Who in your opinion would make the best villain for a part 4?
P: I think Steven Seagal should be the villain for EXPENDABLES 4. I think he'd be best served playing a villain in the series as I know we all want to see Sly and Seagal go at it in a battle to the death.
If Seagal doesn't want to join, you have to go for another big name. Gerard Butler or Denzel Washington would make great villains that could have a big fight with Sly.
P: THANK YOU. I had an idea for a website but together we created this and made it something special. Thank you to all of you who supported and encouraged me when I was just starting out and to all of you who continue to support the site and make it a place where all Expendables fans can come together and share their passion for the franchise.
Lastly, a HUGE THANK YOU to Trevor and his team for keeping the site alive and for taking it to an even greater level of success. Like I said, I couldn't have left the site in better hands. Thank you for taking the time to let me be a part of the four year anniversary of the site. I greatly appreciate it and like everyone else here, I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR EXPENDABLES 3!!
Take care guys!!! You are the greatest fans in the world!!
Here's to another four years!!
