"The Wall Street Journal: Ryan Coolger is coming off his debut film, “Fruitvale Station,” and diving into the canon of Rocky Balboa. Why’d you say yes?
Sylvester Stallone: I was very interested in the premise. It’s not “Rocky 7,” it’s not near that at all. Rocky is retired, kind of set adrift. He’s very lonely in his world. His life has gone by waiting for the inevitable. The grandson of most beloved friend died in his arms and he was visiting him and this relationship starts. This person comes from an entirely different culture side of the world, and something happens that’s incredibly dramatic and profound. This is a drama, not me getting in the ring.
But why reprise the role?
I thought this would be something very unique, to be able to take this character and go another generation with it and still have him be vital and relevant. Wow, that’s unique. I believe that the last film I did, “Expendables III” we took it to the max and I thought, there isn’t much further I can go with this. So I started to speak to the powers that be. I want to go back and do films like “Cop Land” and the early “Rocky”’s. I’m not giving up the action film but now it’s a suspense movie, it’s a bit more emotional."
While this isn't an official announcement or anything like that it does raise some questions. If Stallone did move on from The Expendables do you think that there would be (or should be) another movie without him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
"Yesterday, Schmoes Know reported that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) were set to audition for the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator 5, and The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that the former two will indeed be testing next week. Robbie meanwhile has just "surfaced in connection with the role". The site adds that Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) IS on the short list for the role of Kyle Reese, but Boyd Holbrook (The Host) is NOT. Meanwhile, Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor's dream actor for the role of 'John Connor' is said to The Dark Knight Rises' Tom Hardy, but a meeting hasn't taken place as of yet. Arnold Schwarzenegger will also return, "as a Terminator robot in a time-spanning story that sees him tasked to protect Sarah Connor as she grows up."
Tom Hardy got the role of Mad Max in the upcoming Fury Road and was also apparently in the running to play Snake Plissken in an Escape From New York remake. It seems that he's the go-to guy whenever a classic action movie needs a remake/prequel/sequel.
We have a new trailer for Grudge Match. I have a feeling that this movie will be a bigger hit than the The Escape Plan and I wonder if it will convince Stallone to start doing more comedy type movies.
And here are some mean looking hombres from the set of Sabotage:
Lastly we have two clips from the Jimmy Fallon show. In one he gets into a water fight with Jason Statham and in the other he gets Harrison Ford to pierce his ear. Next I'd like to see him clowning around with Steven Seagal...
